Big changes coming for 2025
Things are changing fast and you’ll want to stay ahead of the game! Here are some of the most important things you’ll want to know. Don’t get left behind!
- Lift Directors will need training: As of October 16, 2024, you can apply on DOB NOW for your Lift Director License. NYC DOB is requiring a license for any person acting as a Lift Director or performing the duties of a Lift Director, as of January 1, 2025. BUT– Did you know that you can’t register for the new license type without completing the training first? Get the training you need from GBTS. Don’t wait… classes are filling up fast!
- Major Building Definition is changing: As of December 11, 2024, under NYC Code Chapter 2, Section 202, the definition of a ‘major building‘ changes. Under the updated code, a new major building (7 stories/75 feet or greater) will require both a registered CS and a SSM or SSC. To qualify for any of these DOB sanctioned licenses or certifications you must complete a NYC DOB approved 40 Hour Site Safety course within 1 year prior to application.
- Worker Wallet Card requirements: Beginning November 1, 2024 you can apply for and receive a Worker Wallet Card from a DOB-Approved Course Provider for specific qualifications. This card is different from and does not replace an SST Card. You’ll need to get your new card by July 1, 2025 to can stay in compliance.
- Big changes to Master Rigger and Special Rigger requirements: You’ll need more training hours in order to get these certifications after January 1. Don’t wait! Save time by registering now!
- For Master Rigger Training, you’ll need both of these:
- 8-Hour Lift Director Training
- 16 HR Rigging Supervisor Refresher.
- For Special Rigger Renewal Training, you’ll need both of these:
- 8-Hour Special Rigger Renewal Training (register for either in-person or virtual training)
- 8-Hour Suspended Scaffold Supervisor
- For Master Rigger Training, you’ll need both of these:
- SST Card renewals: There will be a huge rush to renew SST cards in 2025. Without that card, you’re potentially out of work. If you need a renewal, plan to complete the training at least 60 days before it expires and file a renewal application no later than 30 days before the card expiration. Applications are processed on a first come, first serve basis. Expedited processing options are available for an additional fee.
