The Jacob Javits Convention Center originally opened in 1986 and has since hosted events for every industry; from cars to comics, construction to electronics, the Jacob Javits Center has been the premiere location for trade exhibitions in the NY-metro area. Since opening over 30 years ago, the convention center has seen incremental upgrades while the surrounding neighborhood has undergone a major transformation. At the beginning of March 2017, New York’s Governor Andrew Cuomo attended the ceremonial groundbreaking marking the beginning of a $1.5 Billion expansion of the Jacob Javits Center that many say is long overdue.
The expansion will add 1.2 million square-feet to the Javits Center including a roof-top garden with unobstructed views of the Hudson River and the largest ballroom event space in the area. The first phase of the expansion will add 27 new truck loading docks that are expected to drastically cut down exhibitor move in/move out times as well as ease traffic congestion around the convention center.

The Empire State Development Corporation funded expansion is expected to create 3100 construction jobs, and over 6000 permanent jobs including 4000 full-time jobs in the area.
