Local Law 196 Update: Second Compliance Date Delayed

Local-Law-196-Update

On May 8th, 2019, the New York City Council voted to extend the second compliance date for Local Law 196 (LL196) from 6/1/2019 to 12/1/2019. In response to push back from industry stakeholders, the City Council agreed to delay the training requirement for Workers and Supervisors.

What does this mean?

Workers– Required to have 30 HRs of training and their limited SST card by 6/1/19 will have until 12/1/19 to meet the deadline

Supervisors– Required to have 62 HRs of training and their Supervisor SST card by 6/1/19 will have until 12/1/19 to meet the deadline

Final Compliance Date – Currently, there has been no change to the final compliance deadline of 9/1/20.

As the temperatures finally starting to warm up, December may seem like a distant dream. However, we strongly recommend that Workers, Supervisors, and their employers do not delay their training. While this may seem like salesmanship on our behalf, our classes have already filled for the entire month of May and June’s courses are well on their way there with several weeks left to go. If you are hoping for a more flexible schedule, take this opportunity to secure your seat before the rush at the end of the industry’s peak season.
