Big Changes at DOB
Make Sure Your Training Still Counts
On July 1st, the NYC Department of Buildings made some big changes that impacted the site safety world. Every training provider—no matter how long they’ve been around—had to reapply for DOB Approval under new rules. If they didn’t submit their paperwork and fee by the deadline, they’re no longer allowed to offer training.
Here’s what that means for you: if a provider didn’t reapply, they:
- Are no longer approved to offer DOB Safety Courses
- Have lost their access to Training Connect
- Your SST card could end up in jeopardy, and you could find yourself out of work
Don’t waste your time and money. The list of Approved Course Provider’s on the DOB’s website currently predates 7/1/25.
GBTS has you covered. We’ve reapplied. We’ve been approved. And we’re ready to keep training you the right way: with courses that count, and support you can count on.

Training That Can Happen on Your Time
Not long ago, jobsite training meant carving out hours of your day to sit in a classroom. If your schedule didn’t line up, you were out of luck. That’s changed. GBTS offers training that fits your time and your needs, all while meeting NYC DOB and OSHA standards.

No Worker Wallet Card Could Stop You Cold
Haven’t applied for your Worker Wallet Card? That will cost you more than time: it’ll cost you the job. The DOB made this mandatory as of July 1, 2025, and to be compliant means you can continue working. You can only receive your Worker Wallet Card from an accredited site safety school like GBTS. So don’t wait another minute! We’re committed to helping you get your Worker Wallet Card, fast, hassle-free, with white-gloved service from start to end.

Summer Safety
Stay Cool and Beat the Heat
Summer heat is no joke. You feel it. And it’s not just about staying comfortable while on site, it’s about staying safe.
On hot days, metal railings and ladders can heat up fast. If you’re not wearing gloves, they’ll likely be too hot to hold, and that puts you at risk for an accident. But, even a bigger danger is heat stroke.
When it’s over 100 degrees and the humidity’s high, your body struggles to keep up. You can get dizzy, lightheaded, or confused. On a jobsite, that can be deadly.
It’s important to remind yourself to:
- Drink more water than you think you need
- Take breaks in the shade whenever you can
- Cover your head and wear loose, light-colored clothing
- And most important: look out for each other. It could save a life.
Take the heat seriously. We want everyone heading home safe at the end of every shift. Stay smart, stay cool, and stay safe!
