By the time February rolls around, we all think we’re experts in navigating the winter weather. That false sense of confidence makes it even more likely that you’ll hurt yourself out there. Think about these wintertime hazards and the easy way you can avoid all of them.
- Ice hides where you don’t expect it. Make sure that you take every step carefully, especially if you’re on the job site. Ice can be hiding under snow or it can be dirty enough that you don’t notice it.
- Warm weather can be even more dangerous than cold weather. It seems like those warm days in February are a lot more common than they used to be. If it gets warm enough to melt the snow, then that water will freeze again overnight, making for a slip and fall hazard.
- Be smart. Cold is serious business. This isn’t the time of year for horsing around, whether you’re up on a scaffold or down on the ground. Games may seem harmless enough, but one slip can land you in the hospital or worse. Winter’s not playing with you, don’t play with winter.
Already resting up from a fall? Take an online course!
NOW AVAILABLE: ONLINE OSHA TRAINING!
Local Law 196 of 2017 requires workers and supervisors on projects that necessitate a Construction Superintendent, Site Safety Coordinator or Site Safety Manager to have an SST card. One of the required courses to qualify for the SST card is the actively-proctored 30-Hour OSHA Construction Safety Outreach training course.
That’s why we’ve launched online 10- and 30-HR OSHA construction and general industry outreach training courses in partnership with UL PureSafety, an OSHA-authorized online Outreach provider. No classroom attendance, affordable, on-demand bilingual training that is fully recognized and meets OSHA and NYC Department of Buildings guidelines when actively proctored. Investing in safety training shows your commitment to employee well-being, equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need, significantly reducing workplace accidents and injuries.

There’s an old saying that “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” In the world of construction, that’s never been more true. If you own or manage a business, you need to take steps to prevent accidents before they cost you money.
This year, OSHA and other agencies are partnering for the “National Safety Stand-Down.” This program helps prevent falls in construction with common-sense, easy-to-use steps.
Fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction employees, accounting for 395 of the 1069 construction fatalities recorded in 2022 (BLS data). Those deaths were preventable. The National Safety Stand-Down raises fall hazard awareness across the country in an effort to stop fall fatalities and injuries.
What is a Safety Stand-Down?
A Safety Stand-Down is a voluntary event for employers to talk directly to employees about safety. One of the easiest way to do this is to bring GBTS experts to your site. We’ll come to you, on your schedule, and train your team on all the latest safety requirements. It’s easy to get started… just click the button below and fill out a simple form.
