Course Description
This NYC DOB Approved course is offered as an instructor led in-person and actively proctored training. New as of January 1, 2025, under 1 RCNY §104-06, Special Rigger licensees seeking to renew must complete this course and the 8 HR Suspended Scaffold Supervisor Refresher course for a total of 16 training hours. The training includes a review of New York City Construction Codes and OSHA Regulations as it pertains to rigging operations and industry best practices. Topics include the inspection, maintenance, repair, use, installation, hazards associated with rigging methods, hardware, and equipment, hoisting machines with a manufacturer’s rated capacity of one ton or less, suspended scaffolds, fall protection and more. Attendees can anticipate open discussion with their colleagues to exchange their experiences and discuss the most recent changes in the rigging industry.
The course fee does not include the cost of issuing the SST card or Worker Wallet Card as applicable.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify special rigging equipment and its hazards
- Discuss common causes of rigging accidents based on case studies
- Outline differences between OSHA and NYC DOB scaffold regulations and their sources
- Develop skills necessary to understand rigging math and calculations
- Perform rigging inspections using provided rigging principles
- Identify critical picks and check rigging paperwork as per 1 RCNY 104-20, 1 RCNY 104-21, 1 RCNY 104-22
- Develop emergencies procedures during scaffold incidents
- Discuss common working platforms and safety protocols for lifting/lowering loads

CEU Requirements
- 100% attendance for the course
- Active participation in all class exercises (determined by course instructor)
- Completion of required post-quiz assessment
- As applicable, achievement of minimum passing score on required end-of-course examination
- Participation and submittal of end-of-course evaluation form (must provide name on form to receive credit)
Prerequisites
Individuals attending this course must hold an expired or soon to be expired Special Rigger license. Students attending this course must present their original Special Rigger license.
Students need to be able to verbally communicate with an instructor in the primary language of the training and virtual attendees must have access to an internet connection, a computer, or a tablet with a web camera, microphone, and download the WebEx app.
Training Requirements for 8 Hour Special Rigger Renewal Training
New as of January 1, 2025, under 1 RCNY §104-06, licensees must have successfully completed this NYC Department-approved course and the 8 HR Suspended Scaffold Supervisor Refresher Training course for a total of 16 hours of refresher training. All training must be completed in the one (1) year immediately prior to the renewal.

Audience
NYC DOB Special Rigger license holders seeking to renew their licenses.
100% attendance and active participation in all learning activities including class exercises and the final exam is required. Students must earn a score of 70% or higher on the written, multiple- choice examination to be eligible for a certificate of completion. The training must be completed within the one (1) year period prior to renewal.
Make-up time is not typically permitted with this training. Students who miss time from any individual session must reschedule for the next available program and attend the full training course.
