MORE OSHA TRAINING COMING IN 2025
Local Law 196 of 2017 requires workers and supervisors on projects that necessitate a Construction Superintendent, Site Safety Coordinator or Site Safety Manager to have an SST card. One of the required courses to qualify for the SST card is the actively-proctored 30-Hour OSHA Construction Safety Outreach training course.
In early 2025, GBTS will be launching online 10- and 30-HR OSHA construction and general industry outreach training courses in partnership with UL PureSafety, an OSHA-authorized online Outreach provider. No classroom attendance, affordable, on-demand bilingual training that is fully recognized and meets OSHA and NYC Department of Buildings guidelines. Investing in safety training shows your commitment to employee well-being, equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need, significantly reducing workplace accidents and injuries. OSHA Outreach courses are provided in partnership with UL PureSafety, an OSHA-authorized online Outreach provider.
As of January 1, there is a new rule which applies to construction superintendents. In short, an inspection performed by the construction superintendent is, at minimum, the same as those performed by a site safety manager, if the site doesn’t require a site safety manager. Get the full text of the rule here, and then be prepared for everything you need by signing up for our 40-hour site safety training course. You’ll learn everything you need to know about Chapter 33.
2025 is here, and so are new rules
Things are changing fast and you’ll want to stay ahead of the game! Here are some of the most important things you’ll want to know. Don’t get left behind!
- Lift Directors now need training: NYC DOB is requiring a license for any person acting as a Lift Director or performing the duties of a Lift Director, as of January 1, 2025. BUT– Did you know that you can’t register for the new license type without completing the training first? Get the training you need from GBTS. Don’t wait… classes are filling up fast!
- Major Building Definition has changed: As of December 11, 2024, under NYC Code Chapter 2, Section 202, the definition of a ‘major building‘ changes. Under the updated code, a new major building (7 stories/75 feet or greater) will require both a registered CS and a SSM or SSC. To qualify for any of these DOB sanctioned licenses or certifications you must complete a NYC DOB approved 40 Hour Site Safety course within 1 year prior to application.
- Worker Wallet Card requirements: GBTS is a NYC DOB Approved Course provider for all courses impacted by this new requirement. As of 11/1/24, automatically receive the Worker Wallet card following eligible training. This card is different from and does not replace an SST Card. For impacted training completed prior to Nov 1, you’ll need to prepare to meet the full implementation date by no later than June 30, 2025 to stay in compliance. .
- Big changes to Master Rigger and Special Rigger renewal requirements under 1 RCNY §104-06,
- Master Rigger licensees seeking to renew must complete the 16 HR Rigging Supervisor Refresher training and the 8 HR Lift Director Refresher training courses for a total of 24 training hours.
- Special Rigger licensees seeking to renew must complete the 8-Hour Special Rigger Renewal Training (register for either in-person or virtual training) and the 8-Hour Suspended Scaffold Supervisor course.
- SST Card renewals: The rush is on! You need an SST card this year, plain and simple. Without that card, you’re potentially out of work. If you need a renewal, plan to complete the training at least 60 days before it expires and file a renewal application no later than 30 days before the card expiration. Applications are processed on a first come, first serve basis. Out of time and need your application expedited? We have options.
