Starting November 1, 2024, all workers completing a NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) approved initial or refresher scaffold, rigging, or mast climber training course will be issued the new Worker Wallet card. The card will replace the completion ID cards DOB Approved Course Providers currently issue. This one card consolidates multiple certifications into a single card. Like the SST card, it can be scanned to display all your stored qualifications, making it easier to verify your credentials on the job site. The new card will be mandatory as of July, 2025.

Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP) are machines/devices intended for moving persons, tools, and materials to a working position, consisting of at least a work platform with controls, an extending structure, and a chassis. The most common examples of MEWPs include Articulating Boom Lifts, Scissor Lifts, Vertical Lifts.
MEWP is a device that enables access to hard-to-reach places by lifting a platform into the air. These devices give workers temporary access to otherwise inaccessible locations. The devices are easy to use and are typically safer to use than ladders and scaffolds. These devices are usually powered by electricity, gas, pneumatic, or hydraulic systems that power a series of supports, lifting the work platform. The purpose of this training is to provide students with general instructions regarding the inspection, application, and operation of aerial platforms, including recognition and avoidance of hazards associated with their operation. Students will develop the competency needed to operate MEWPs safely while also complying with the laws governing their operation.
The combination of classroom theory training and practical assessment aims to reduce the risks related to MEWP operation by teaching the fundamentals of safe operating procedures.
In order to successfully complete this training, all participants must pass a practical (hands-on) assessment on the specified equipment at the client/employer’s facility.

What is the difference between the 32-Hour Suspended Scaffold Supervisor course and the 32 Hour Rigging Supervisor course?

The 32 Hour Suspended Scaffold Supervisor course is designed for individuals who exclusively work with Suspended Scaffolds while the 32 Hour Rigging Supervisor course is specific to those who work with hoisting and crane operations.
Are the 32-hour suspended scaffold supervisor and 32 hour rigging foreman programs the same courses?
Yes they are. In 2012 the NYC DOB updated the name of the 32-HOUR RIGGING FOREMAN course to the 32 Hour Suspended Scaffold Supervisor Training course.
When will I receive my scaffold card?
The 4 Hour User Supported Scaffold card is released to students after class EXCEPT: Your company/employer paid for the training and requested that the card be mailed to their office. Scaffold classes which require that students pass a final exam will be available for pick-up 1-2 business days after the end of class.
Can I keep working with an expired scaffold card?
As per NYC Department of Buildings, persons with expired cards are not allowed to work on any type of scaffold.
How long after my scaffold card expires do I have to renew?
All scaffold refresher courses must be taken within one year of the original card’s expiration date. If more than a year has passed since the card has expired, the entire 32 Hour Supported Scaffold Installer/Remover, 16 Hour Suspended Scaffold User or 32 Hour Suspended Scaffold Supervisor course must be taken again.
How do I renew my scaffold training?
The renewal process is different for each type of scaffold training. Below is a list of card type and the relevant renewal process. 30-Hour OSHA Construction Safety & Health Program

This program includes OSHA policies, procedures, and standards, as well as construction safety and health principles. The training will place emphasis on those areas that are most hazardous, using OSHA standards as a guide. This program is more applicable for the construction supervisor, with a more intensified focus on various occupational safety and health standards.
10-Hour OSHA Construction Safety & Health Program
This 10 Hour OSHA Outreach training is designed to promote workplace safety and health and to make workers more knowledgeable about workplace hazards and their rights. Emphasis is placed on the role of the construction worker in hazard recognition and avoidance, workers’ rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint.
