Safety Training Courses

This training has been retired at the direction of NYC DOB. As of 2023, as mandated by 28-404.3.2 of the NYC Administrative Code, Special Rigger License candidates much complete the 16-Hour Special Rigger Course and 32-Hour Suspended Scaffold Supervisor Training Course within one year prior to application submittal. The courses can be taken in the sequence of your choosing.

During this 32-hour course, students will be provided with an overview of OSHA and DOB policies, procedures, and ASME rigging standards with a special emphasis on supervision and coordination of rigging crews and rigging equipment setup. Some topics will include instructions on how to visually inspect rigging equipment, crane setup, load weight and center of gravity calculations as well as methods of applying proper rigging hitches. Students will participate in hands-on exercises in which they will be responsible for presenting, installing and using various rigging applications.

Hands-on assessment will be made by instructor to determine if each student is capable of applying rope knots, inspect rigging hardware and apply learned rigging lifting techniques and immediately prior to the end of course students will independently complete a multiple choice final exam.

The course fee does not include the cost of issuing the SST card or Worker Wallet Card as applicable.

As of January 1, 2025, under 1 RCNY §104-06, Master Rigger licensees seeking to renew must complete the 16 HR Rigging Supervisor Refresher training and the 8 HR Lift Director Refresher training courses for a total of 24 training hours. Please use the buttons below to sign up for the required courses. 

During the training, students will be provided with an overview of OSHA and DOB policies, procedures, and ASME rigging standards with a special emphasis on recognition and prevention of hazardous conditions.

Additional topics will include instructions on how to visually inspect rigging equipment, basic crane components, crane setup and methods of applying proper rigging hitches. Students will participate in hands-on exercises in which they will be responsible for presenting, installing and using various rigging applications.

Hands-on assessment will be made by instructor to determine if each student is capable of applying rope knots, inspect rigging hardware and apply learned rigging lifting techniques. Immediately prior to the end of the course, students will independently participate in a multiple-choice final exam.

This NYC DOB Approved course is offered as an instructor led in-person and actively proctored training. New as of January 1, 2025, under 1 RCNY §104-06, Special Rigger licensees seeking to renew must complete this course and the 8 HR Suspended Scaffold Supervisor Refresher course for a total of 16 training hours. The training includes a review of New York City Construction Codes and OSHA Regulations as it pertains to rigging operations and industry best practices. Topics include the inspection, maintenance, repair, use, installation, hazards associated with rigging methods, hardware, and equipment, hoisting machines with a manufacturer’s rated capacity of one ton or less, suspended scaffolds, fall protection and more. Attendees can anticipate open discussion with their colleagues to exchange their experiences and discuss the most recent changes in the rigging industry.
